Abdomen Post-surgery Update

I just got off the phone with Dr. McIntyre and I believe we can finally breathe again.

Tristan did very well during the surgery and we couldn't have asked for a better outcome.

These are the highlights:

  • All abdominal sponges have been removed

  • Liver bleeding has stopped - the major source of concern

  • His spleen looked good and did not need to be removed

  • There were no other internal injuries found - fantastic news

  • They were able to close his stomach and have added drains to watch for bile over the next few days

  • He didn't need additional blood transfusions during the surgery - this is exceptional

  • He did well enough during the surgery that they feel comfortable proceeding with the leg repair next, which will take about another three hours

  • If he does as well during the leg surgery and the anesthesia team feels comfortable with it, they may remove his breathing tubes this evening

These are all HUGE gains and we are so thankful. We won't get to see him in-person today, but knowing his vitals were strong enough to proceed with the surgeries brings us solace.

I'll provide another update after his leg surgery is complete.

This is all good news. What a strong kid to get passed the first critical 48 hours. You are all in our thoughts every minute. Xoxo Christin Lefkow (Dean’s mom) 🥰

Such a relief that the surgery went so well and had such a positive outcome. Fingers crossed that the leg surgery is just as successful and that he can have the tubes removed. Hoping getting that leg addressed will help with some of the pain as well.
