Every Day I'm Shufflin'

Today has been a good day...just look at that smile! Tristan finished his oxycodone yesterday and we transitioned to a Tylenol + Codeine/Ibuprofen regimen. He said he slept better last night and is rating his pain at a 3 out of 10 today. He's been awake more of the day and his voice sounds stronger when he's talking.

This weekend he's moved a bit more, taking the "long route" back to his bed from the bathroom so he can stop by the snack bowl and fill his pockets with something to nosh on. Watching him shuffle along with his walker makes me so proud because I know his leg still hurts terribly but he's determined to do what he can by himself. His appetite is great, but we're struggling to get enough food in him without his stomach hurting. He loves fruit, but we've had to cut back on that since it seems to be one of the culprits (although he's still requesting his Orange Dream Machine with protein from Jamba Juice). Tonight he's enjoying more of the Shrimp Fried Rice from Jenny Pho for dinner, and continues to try different items, but for the most part we're sticking with the rice/egg/pasta/avocado staples.

This will be a very busy week for Tristan. He'll have home visits from the nurse, Occupational and Physical therapists, a Seattle visit to the Harborview Eye Institute on Wednesday, and another Seattle visit on Friday to see the Ortho Team for his stitch removal from the femur surgery, plus the Oral Maxillofacial Team for his orbital fracture follow-up. Hopefully after this week the rest of his appointments will all be home visits so we don't have to put him through the pain of car travel. Fingers crossed that by next weekend he'll be free of all stitches and will be cleared from his sinus restriction (meaning he can safely sneeze with his mouth closed, blow his nose, and use a straw again)!
