Lego Technic Lamborghini Sian

Tristan needs to have a project. Building has been a burning desire of his since he was a toddler, and one of his favorite places was my Grandfather's farm. From the tools, to the heavy equipment, to the building materials, it was Tristan's Heaven on Earth and fueled his passion for building things.

Knowing he wouldn't be physically capable of working on his BMW for quite some time, Tristan sold it to a fellow project-car enthusiast yesterday. It was very hard for him to watch the car drive away, but we all felt it was the best choice for now. In the interim I'm trying to keep him busy with Lego building projects, and let me tell you, these are not the Legos of my generation! Tristan is working on the Lamborghini Sian at the moment and the real-life functionality of it is ridiculously impressive. He's enjoying putting it together and I'm enjoying watching the process.

I gave Tristan a hair cut today and we had a really strange discovery. His head was pinned under the bumper of the SUV during the collision and his helmet split nearly in half. A portion of it dug into the back of his head and now he has a roughly 1/2" by 4" bald strip. It's really bizarre because I remember feeling the lump when he was in the ICU, but it wasn't an "open wound". The skin hadn't split open and the hair didn't feel as if it was torn out, but the area was definitely traumatized because it's completely bald now without any new growth. I guess he can always blame it on his in-home-hair-stylist.

Overall this was a good week for Tristan. The Speech Therapist came back to share the test scores which confirmed her belief that he had done much better than the first time around. He's now been fully discharged from the Home Health Services and had his first outpatient physical therapy appointment today. It was mostly a Q&A session to go over his injuries/pain/etc., but it was good to get him out and about. His next appointment is Monday and that's when they'll start the real work. I also signed him up at 24Hour Fitness so he'll be able to supplement with the equipment (and pool) there when his therapist feels he's ready.

Last night Tristan tried sleeping flat to see if it would bring some relief to his displaced rib, but ended up having GI issues from it even though he's still taking the Prevacid daily. It looks like it may be a while before he's able to go back to a fully flat sleeping position, but he's sleeping well overall so we're thankful.

Tristan has bid adieu to the walker and is only using the crutches when we go out or if he needs to get up and down the stairs. Otherwise, if he's on the first floor he's able to slowly move about unassisted which is amazing to see. He's such a strong spirited human and is determined to forge ahead as steadily and quickly as possible. His strength and positive attitude have been so impressive, and make my heart swell with momma pride. I love this human so much, and this Mother's Day I'll be thanking the universe that I still get to celebrate it with both of my children.

Wishing you all a beautiful Mother's Day weekend.
